Only 16 out of 32 NFL teams use synthetic grass. Real grass needs to be replaced, cut, and fertilized throughout the season, and of course the water required to maintain the fields is exorbitant. The EPA says that just one hour's use of a gas mower (a fraction of energy/gas usage required to maintain a pro field) is equivalent to a 100 mile car trip.
